YMCA Birmingham Board of Trustees
YMCA Birmingham is a charity registered with the Charity Commission and a housing association registered with and regulated by the Homes & Communities Agency. Ultimate responsibility for the life of the association rests with the Board of Trustees. They must ensure that the association operates within its Christian aims and purposes, and that it is working to achieve its charitable objects, both of which are set out in its governing document.
Trustees are directors of the company with all the legal responsibilities that that entails, but they all serve in a voluntary capacity; they receive no pay and cannot receive a dividend. Trustees can serve for a maximum of nine years, after which they must step down from the board.
Trustees meet as a Board six times a year. They delegate some of their powers and responsibilities to sub committees. We have three official committees covering: Development & Asset Management, Finance, and Housing. We also own a subsidiary company – YMCA Birmingham & Solihull Enterprises Ltd (YBASE) – which oversees the work of our social enterprise department, and acts as our social enterprise committee. Committee members and directors of YBASE are all appointed and can be removed by the Board of Trustees.
