YMCA Birmingham wins two national youth awards

October 26, 2015

Our very own Tom Truman has won ‘Young Worker of the Year’ at the YMCA’s national awards, Youth Matters 2015.

Housing assistant Brenda Hughes also picked up the Outstanding Contribution trophy – recognised her 23 years of work at YMCA Birmingham.

Now in their seventh year, the Youth Matters awards celebrate the people who make their YMCAs thrive and who create a fantastic environment in which young residents can learn and skill up.

YMCA Birmingham was the most successful UK YMCA of the night with a further two nominations for YMCA of the Year, and Young Achiever of 2015, for which resident Gabrielle Roachford was in the running.

Tom said: “Youth work is what makes me come alive – especially when I see people gaining fresh vision and confidence for their lives. The YMCA really does help them walk in a new direction. I’m thrilled to win and to have a job which is all about making other people’s lives better!”
