YMCA Birmingham, part of Heart of England, are supporting Age UK Birmingham in providing a hot meals delivery service for the most vulnerable people in our City.
The local charity has opened their kitchens and provided staff to support Age UK’s initiative, ensuring that local people over 70, have three hot meals a day during these difficult times. Meals are prepared from YMCA’s Magdalene Court site in Northfield in Birmingham.
The meal service began on Tuesday 26th May and will then operate every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for up to 12 weeks.
Talking about the partnership, Pauline Tomlinson, Assistant Chief Executive of YMCA Heart of England said,
“We are delighted to be part of this essential service and to be working with Age UK Birmingham, who are providing a hot meal preparation and delivery service for the most isolated and vulnerable people over the age of 70.
“Age UK work with social workers and hospital discharge teams to support older people over the age of 70 who live alone and have existing mobility/medical conditions and we are humbled to be part of this essential delivery and support service.”
A spokesperson from Age UK said, “Now more than ever, vulnerable older people need our support. We welcome the opportunity to work with YMCA Birmingham, to reach even more people in Northfield and Edgbaston with nutritious meals delivered to their door.”
The service will provide three, free of charge nutritious two course hot meals to individuals who are already identified as being most in need. The meals include a main course with a range of vegetables, a pudding and bottle of water, delivered between 12.00 and 1.30pm. A referral can also be made to AGE UK’s Telephone Befriending Service, where their broader needs will be assessed and referred to appropriate organisations.
If you, or someone you know, lives within the Edgbaston or Northfield constituency, are aged over 70, lives alone or have existing mobility issues that make shopping and preparing meals difficult, or have one or more existing underlying health conditions, then you may be eligible for this service.
